i had a conversation with a jw lady recently and she proudly stated that they didn't pass the collection plate, like the churches do.
to me a rose by any other name is still a rose.
to pay the bills ( hall, hydro, phone, charity etc, etc) the money has to come from somewhere.
What's worse, a collection plate, or contribution boxes in every corner of the hall, and at every aisle of an assembly?
I've been to a couple of Catholic church events, and though the plate is present, it is not prominent. If you are not going for your wallet, they skip right past you.

Typical American arrogance spewing from the mouth of this nut. I can't read any further. Maybe he should re-read the history books and see what role America had in WW1. They certainly didn't "rescue" France singlehandedly as he implies. The Canadians achieved much more toward "rescuing" France than the USA did.

Sorry April, upon re-reading your post I see your point. I missed it the first time around. I apologize for insinuating that you had the "guilt by association" mindset.
However, having said that, I stand by my position that generalizations do more harm than good. An honest JW looking for answers will be driven back to the JW's if all they read on sites like this is messages of hate and resentment. We all need to be careful what we say so as not to appear "unbalanced" in our feelings toward the WT and all it's trappings. The last thing any of us want to do is be guilty of a post that makes a JW say "The WT was right about these internet sites"
As for me, I think this will be my last post here. I have been on this forum since July 2001 (under a different name) and I agree with a few of the others recently that it is time to move on. I cannot say I am free of the JW's if I keep dropping by here to see what's happening. I have more important things happening in my life, like my little 1 year old baby boy for example. I should be spending this time with him. As I sit here right now, he is downstairs playing and I am missing it.

Truly a tragic day. As if the loss of human life was not bad enough, we also lost a precious piece of history, the Columbia itself. This was a technological wonder in 1981, and truly a piece of history equal to Apollo 11. I will not be able to listen to Rush's song "Countdown" (a tribute to the Columbia's first flight) again without being reminded of this day.

We use Mechanical Desktop too. I looked into switching to Inventor, but it didn't really suit our needs. It is an awesome program though. I also learned SolidWorks and found, in my opinion, Inventor to be a more user friendly product. The advances in Inventor 6 are outstanding.

It's amazing what you can come up with with Visual Basic. I wrote a CAM program to run within Rhinoceros with VB. I also wrote a automated hole function for Mechanical Desktop. I'm not done yet...
